SEE-ID was co-founded by Grace Noppert, John Kubale, and Sonia Hegde.

Grace Noppert

Grace is a Research Assistant Professor with the Social Environment and Health Group in the Survey Research Center at the Institute for Social Research at the University of Michigan. As a social and infectious disease epidemiologist, her work focuses specifically on understanding health inequities in infectious diseases in the U.S., ranging from clinical infections such as Tuberculosis (TB) to persistent viral infections. Grace currently work also includes understanding how the neighborhood environment shapes the distribution of SARS-CoV-2 infections.

John Kubale

John is a Research Assistant Professor in ICPSR at the Institute for Social Research at the University of Michigan where he leads the Social, Behavioral, & Economic COVID Coordinating Center. His research focuses on characterizing the dynamics of severe illness caused by respiratory viruses including influenza, respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), and SARS-CoV-2. Through this research he aims to explore the social and environmental factors that drive persistent disparities in the frequency and severity of respiratory infections in children, and identify mechanisms through which these inequities may be addressed. Before coming to the University of Michigan, Dr. Kubale spent 4 years working for the Centers for Disease Control, primarily as a Policy Analyst in the Office of the Director.

Sonia Hegde

Sonia is a Research Associate in the Department of Epidemiology at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. She is an epidemiologist specializing in methodological approaches in infectious disease epidemiology, with a particular focus on emerging infections and diarrheal disease, and on understanding the social and environmental context through which disease transmission persists.
